Summer Fun at the Beach

Today we woke up, threw on our swimsuits, and headed South to Galveston Island. Although we were there less than a year ago, the great storm Ike really transformed the Island, so we had heard, so we decided to go take a look. Surprisingly, the majority of our favorite places look unchanged if not spiffier due to new signage and structural changes. A few landmarks are gone, maybe forever, but we were pleasantly surprised by the resiliency of the island. The beach was cleaner than ever, and we parked on the seawall to jump into the waves. The 3 of of had a blast burying each other in the sand, boogy boarding, and jumping waves. Even though we've been battling record breaking heat in Houston (104 degree temps!) the gulf breeze kept us cool, and we stayed under the umbrella or in the water. After several hours of hard beach play, we decided to venture out for a seafood bite. We moseyed over to the Sunflower Cafe and Bakery, a recommendation from a Woodvillian friend who has a home in Galveston. Maybe we were just famished, but the meal was the best we've had in a while! Mom ate crab cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, Dad had shrimp etouffee, and I gobbled up a huge plate of pancakes, eggs and sausage--what a feast! We headed home after that (I dozed off right away, of course) and are now getting ready to hop the train to Minute Maid Park to see the 'Stros. Let's hope they can put up a decent fight tonight, fingers crossed! I've also included some pics of our recent trip to Dallas. We had lots of fun visiting with all our friends and staying with the Brauns. Our wonderful hosts threw a huge barbeque the first night we arrived, and it was a blast to see all our old neighbors, Moms Club and church friends. The last night we were there, Mrs. Petra busted out the playstation karaoke Abba style. It was so much fun to sing and dance to the moms' favorite songs (whenever we could pry the mic away from those women!) Apparently Mom and Mrs. Petra were practicing for their big sing-off during their girls' weekend in Houston. Thank goodness I'll be in Poplar Bluff!

Summertime

We've all really been enjoying the summer activities here. I've been swimming a lot and can now jump off the diving board and swim to the side all by myself! We had lots of fun this past weekend hanging out at Uncle Jay's pool. He and Aunt Lizzie went to New Orleans for a business conference for the weekend, so James, Claire and I got to hang out together all weekend. Mom and I had already been in Woodville for the week to attend WUMC Bible School. Mom taught music and I had fun in a class with just 4 year olds. Mom dropped me off back in Houston on Thursday afternoon when Dad got back in town from Austin/San Antonio. Dad got to see Jason and Jenn's house for the first time in San Antonio and says it is awesome. Mom and I can't wait to go visit soon. I went to a birthday party at my favorite park, Discovery Green on Friday morning, then Dad and I headed back to Woodville. We surprised Dad on Saturday night by the pool with a birthday cake in Ole Miss colors. We knew we wouldn't be with him on the 16th, so we had to celebrate early. It was an ice cream cake from DQ and boy was it good! We ended the night with a watermelon seed spitting contest (which Mom won) and a "who can eat watermelon the messiest" contest which James won after he coated his entire torso in watermelon bits and juice. Too bad I don't like watermelon--it sure looked like fun. Also included in this post are various pictures of me enjoying the summer painting, splashing, lifting weights with Dad (or cans of kidney beans in my case), and a few other rodeo party photos that weren't included in the last post. Mom and I are headed out to Dallas now for a visit with friends while Dad is in NC on business. We're really of taking advantage of no school--whoo hoo!!

May 19, 2009--My 4th Birthday!

This past week has been one constant party. It started last Tuesday when I officially turned 4. Mom and Dad came up to school with some delicious cowboy cookies for my class to celebrate. I got a special birthday hat, and my entire class sang the birthday song. That night, I got to open the presents from my family. My first gift rolled in on 2 wheels--a new bike with no training wheels from Mom and Dad! Next, I got even more wheels--a pair of roller skates from Grandpa Glen and Grandma Pat. Don't worry, the second package I opened from them was a set of protective pads. Mom and Dad say I should just wear those all the time! Grandmother and Grandandan game me a real western outfit for my cowboy birthday party on Saturday. I had to put it on immediately, of course--complete with vest, chaps, canteen, and hat. We had lots of fun celebrating that night at my favorite restaurant, Lupe Tortillas. I never eat much--just play in the sand pit all night--then round out the dinner with some ice cream from their special freezer. What fun! There's more to come soon--a recap of Saturday's rodeo round up with all my friends. Can't wait for you to see the pictures.
